In many cases, many diseases that happen in the human body may be traced back to one or more blocked chakras. Just as there is a physical dimension of the human body so there is a body of energy also known as pranamaya kosha.
The seven chakras are energetic points located in the energy body. Chakra means wheel in Sanskrit as they can also be seen as wheels that facilitate the flow of energy.
Starting from the first to the last chakra, we will have a look at the symptoms of blocked chakras and briefly mention what a healthy chakra looks like as well. Hope this will help you understand which of these energy centers needs attention and care and help you improve your overall health.

1. Symptoms of a Blocked Root Chakra
An open root chakra will make you feel connected to earth and life. It helps make you aware of your role in this world. Also having the role of supporting all other chakras a good and healthy root chakra will give you a deep sense of support and security.
Located at the base of the spinal cord a blocked root chakra will manifest within this area of your body and below it as well. To test yourself if you have a blocked root chakra here are some of the symptoms and negative physical effects:
- leg issues – cramps, varicose veins, diminished water retention, knee pain.
- issues with male genitalia, prostate glands, and rectum.
- issues with the skeletal system – arthritis, bone diseases, sciatica.
- constipation.
- anemia.
- bulimia or other eating disorders.
On the emotional level, the blocked root chakra will diminish the sense of pleasure, and motivation and make it difficult to reach your goals. Whilst an open root chakra will make you feel relaxed and at ease with your life.

2. Symptoms of A Blocked Sacral Chakra
This is a chakra associated with creativity, playfulness, or pleasure. It is the chakra that deals with emotional expression. The sacral chakra rules over the pleasure center and it mostly affects the emotional side of your life.
When it comes to symptoms of blocked chakras here are the symptoms related to a sacral chakra:
- addiction
- lethargy, lack of motivation, and feeling overwhelmed
- issues with relationships and commitments
- lack of joy in relation to sex and creativity.
The blocked sacral chakra can have an impact on the physical body as well. The physical symptoms of a blocked sacral chakra can be:
- issues with the female reproductive organs
- issues with the lower back, and the pelvic region
- problems with the menstrual cycle or other gynecological conditions
- urinary tract infections.
An open sacral chakra will offer a sense of connection to the Divine and the universe when performing creative work. It also makes one feel deeply committed in relation to the other and elevates the sexual and passionate nature of oneself.
3. Symptoms of A Blocked Solar Plexus Chakra
This is a chakra of inner freedom. When the solar plexus chakra is out of balance one will tend towards negative self-talk and being judgemental towards others which can lead to feelings of anxiety.
When this chakra is balanced there is a heightened sense of respect and compassion towards ourselves and others. It makes us confident and in control of our lives. You can test yourself for having a blocked Solar Plexus Chakra if you experience symptoms like:
- digestive and gastrointestinal system issues, colon, gallbladder, pancreas, and liver
- dermatitis, acne, eczema, or other skin conditions
- chronic fatigue or hypertension
- lack of self-esteem or power of will
- general exhaustion, mentally drained, or feeling as if on the verge of getting sick.
4. Symptoms of A Blocked Heart Chakra
Symptoms of blocked chakras can happen emotionally, especially when dealing with a blocked heart chakra. It can also influence your body, especially by weakening the immune system.
Here are some of the emotional symptoms of a blocked heart chakra:
- detachment of the world and even loved ones
- feelings of loneliness, abandonment, bitter
- general loss of compassion and love
- loss of hope, faith, passion, trust
- feelings of apathetic nature
- issues with the breasts, lungs, and heart
- asthmatic conditions
- issues with the upper back region, shoulders, or even wrists
- issues with the lymphatic system.
When balanced the Heart chakra will make you feel compassionate, joyful, grateful, and forgiving. It will help you feel deeply connected with the world and to the people around you.
5. Symptoms of An Unbalanced Throat Chakra
If you are on the introverted side or have communication issues, this can be one of the symptoms of blocked chakras, particularly a blockage in the Throat chakra. Other symptoms related to this chakra are health issues related to the thyroid, neck, or tongue.
The throat chakra is associated with the ability to express and communicate. Some blocked chakra symptoms related to Throat Chakra are:
- lack of communication other than superficial talk
- fear, anxiety
- ADD, ADHD
- lack of willpower, lack of control
- issues with communication – an over-stimulated Throat Chakra may present in a person by the desire to manipulate others through the use of words and tone, whilst an under-stimulated Throat Chakra will go the other way by making your wants and needs less important and focusing more on others’ wants and needs
- feeling victimized or having emotions of guilt.
On the physical level, the symptoms of an unbalanced Throat Chakra include infections of the throat, mouth tonsils, neck tension, and headaches.
6. Symptoms of An Unbalanced Third Eye Chakra
This chakra is related to having a heightened level of perspective and consciousness. When the Third Eye Charka is working well one feels alert and focused with heightened power of concentration. True knowledge, wisdom, and truth are other words related to this chakra.
Some physical symptoms of a blocked Third Eye Chakra are:
- hormonal imbalances
- migraines, seizures
- sinusitis, eye fatigue, loss of hearing
- issues with allergies.
On the emotional level, here are some of the symptoms of an imbalanced Third Eye Chakra:
- poor concentration
- excessive daydreaming
- excessive self-reflection
- sleep issues such as insomnia, and excessive sleep
- volatile behavior
- irregular shift moods.
7. Symptoms of an Unbalanced Crown Chakra
This chakra connects us with the universe and helps us live in the moment when we’re healthy. When unbalanced, it has multiple forms of expressions on an emotional level and the body.
Some physical symptoms of a blockage on the Crown Chakra are:
- visual aberrations or seeing one’s chakras
- over sensitivity to external stimuli such as sounds or lights
- bone issues such as paralysis or Multiple Sclerosis
- issues with autoimmunity.
On the emotional level, a blockage on the Crown Chakra will cause symptoms such as:
- depression, anxiety, and mood disorders
- the desire for isolation and thoughts that supports the isolation
- despair, confusion, and feeling of abandoned
- isolation, separation from society
- inability to learn new things or to gain, or accept new knowledge
- close-minded thinking
- inability to forgive.
If we consider the Root Chakra as the Earth’s Mother, the Crown Chakra is the Sky Father. The Root Chakra connects with the planet we live in whilst the Crown Chakra is joining us with the Universe.
